FORGE Paragon Rules
Paragon
/ˈparəɡ(ə)n/
(noun)
- A person or thing viewed as a model of excellence.
Hi All!
I'm pleased to announce Paragon Rules for FORGE.
These are an optional one-page supplement that help to enable true solo character play in an OSR world. They make lone characters more durable, as well as giving them the tools to stand up to challenges that would normally require a full party to face.
FORGE Paragon Rules include:
- Beefier Player Characters (known as Paragon Characters), including greater carrying capacity, higher average attributes and an additional free weapon attack per combat round.
- Lower HP NPCs.
- Lower Damage/Healing across the board and incorporation of cleaving damage.
- Luck currency, which enables a PC to succeed a critical check (e.g. a death save or finishing blow) - In addition, critically failing any check earns a PC a point of Luck to spend later.
- An updated Character Sheet which includes a Luck Tracker and updated notes about Inventory Slots.
Overall, Paragon Characters are equivalent to about 3-4 standard FORGE player characters each.
I intended these rules to be modular, so you can pick and choose modifications that interest you. For example, only incorporating Luck and increased number of Inventory Slots. I would however recommend that the modifications to NPC hit points and the damage/healing calculation always be combined together, as either in isolation will produce less than ideal results!
Anyone familiar with the fantastic Scarlet Heroes will immediately recognise that as the core inspiration for this supplement - however, I hope that this implementation is simpler and tailored more towards the FORGE system.
Thank you all once again for your support and I hope that you continue to enjoy playing FORGE :)
